It seemed like it was only yesterday when little Carl and his family had to leave Independence Missouri and head to Oregon. At the time, he did not understand why they were doing this, and especially why there was such an urgency to do it. His father found a better paying job that would support their large family. Carl had a couple older brothers, but some younger sisters he usually took care of.
He day dreamed often about what it would be like in Oregon. Was it warmer there? Was it more spacious? Carl was big on his own privacy. Since they had such a large family in such a small house, he was always in a room with someone even though sometimes he wanted to by himself. He would often go outside and run of on his own and watch the sunset to pass the time.
He was big into sport even though his father said it was a bunch of nonsense. He always said "You will never make any money doing that silly sport son, find a real job." Little did his father know, it later drove him to do what he wanted to do, and ultimately deny his father.
Later in his life, Carl played ball for a minor league team in Oregon and made a lot of money off of it. He forgave his father for his discouragement, and later bought him a house for him to retire in. All in all, Carl went on his preach to do what you want to do, no matter what.
